Each year, just before Fathers Day, Fathers and Families Center presents the Heart of a Father award, sponsored by Managed Health Service, to five outstanding fathers nominate by the Indianapolis community. The award is given to recognize those fathers who go the extra step in nurturing the development of their children.

Fathers and Families Center needs your help to identify potential award recipients. Nominate a biological father, legal stepfather, or adoptive father who acts as a positive role model, and takes an active role in his child’s development.

Recipients of the Heart of a Father award will be recognized at the Fathers & Families Center 2013 Faces of Fatherhood Luncheon, sponsored by Citizens Energy Group, to be held Friday, June 14 at the Conrad Indianapolis. At the luncheon, award recipients will receive the Heart of a Father Award, recognition as an outstanding father, and a $250 cash prize.

A 2013 Heart of a Father award nomination form is attached. Nominations are due April 26. For more information regarding the Heart of a Father Award or the Faces of Fatherhood Luncheon call 317-921-5943 or visit the Fathers and Families Center web site at www.FatherResource.org

Marine Corporal Josh Bleill will be the keynote speaker for the 2013 Indiana Dads Expo, being held on June 8 at Ivy Tech College in Indianapolis. Josh is a native of Greenfield, Indiana. After graduating high school, Josh attended Purdue University. Upon completion of his education, Josh decided to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps in 2004, and was activated for a tour of duty in Iraq in 2006.

While serving in Iraq, Corporal Bleill was severely injured, resulting in the loss of both of his legs. After extensive rehabilitation, Bleill returned to Indiana in August of 2008, where he attacked his new life head-on. This new life included employment as the Indianapolis Colts Community Spokesperson.

Indianapolis Colts Owner, Jim Irsay, has described Bleill as “very talented, bright-eyed, and skilled,” and Josh now travels the country to spread his message of hope, “one step at a time.” A new father, his message is especially relevant to Dads!
